“New Year Resolutions”

It is becoming the end of the year and all around I hear talk about making the infamous “New Year Resolutions”.  To be honest half of these I hear is to lose weight or to stick to the diet.  Its no wonder why we say that resolution, I mean we just had 2 major holidays here in the states, between thanksgiving and Christmas, the serenity of food still dances in our minds (or stomachs).  And each year we vow to stand by these resolutions… We make the resolution, we decide, we are determined, we know the solution, but by the end of January (for the most of us) we say screw it!  And for those who are still going strong with your resolutions on December 31st (well screw you too!... kidding!!!)

I ponder the thought of what makes us say we can not stand strong to our own resolutions.  Is it that our resolutions are unrealistic?

My New Years Resolutions
(A work in progress)
I will not call people a dumbass
(This seems unrealistic already)
I will not text during lectures
(Again who am I kidding?)

All I’ve learned is that so far my resolutions are not even achievable!

This will be a work in progress…
I have 3 more days to think of something achievable.

What comes next?

We are told to reach for the stars and to settle for nothing less than being happy.  What happens when you reach that star and you are happy… what comes next?

Addictions

When do you step in and help someone who you think is in trouble?  Is it ok to speak up and help someone who doesn’t want to see the reality of their actions?  Is it a fair assumption that because you yourself have been in similar situations that you can relate?  Or is this relating more for your benefit?  So you yourself can confirm that you have healed and moved on from your past situations. Because you have survived this already thus you know what to do.  But is it really safe to assume that similarities are even similar at all?  What about learning from our mistakes?  It is a hard choice to walk away, but sometimes it is what we have to do....and then hope that this mistake... this last mistake.. they will finally learn from.

The Taco Bell Date...

If you take a girl to a fancy restaurant “some” of us would see this in a few ways… notice I say “some” of us not to offend the girl who actually finds this the ‘Perfect’ date.  But in our minds it can be taken as:
1. It’s a first date and you are trying to impress us (though unless you can continue to supersede each date why bother? You are just setting the expectations high for yourself… after the fancy restaurant she’s going to expect the same quality each time or above).
 2. Forgiveness… you forgot our birthday or we totally caught you staring at someone else’s boobs while we were having a conversation (sure some boobs you can’t look away, but stop me and say wow look at those!)
3. Blind date… (you never know how horrid this person will be so a dark setting could be quite the brilliant idea for both parties involved!)

I suppose this now brings up the question of where do you take us?  Good question!  You know sure...why not take us to Taco Bell.  One might perceive this as a “cheap” date.  But ladies… lets over-think this!  There is no pressure to get all dressed up when going to Taco Bell!  Though I suppose you could get all dressed up at Taco Bell, why not?  Your date would probably look like he’s paying you for the night.  As I typed that last sentence the idea of both parties dressing up and going to Taco Bell sounds somewhat promising.  Think of all the looks you would get and what the person behind the counter is thinking.  I’m pretty sure who ever’s behind that register will be close to the phone expecting some kind of fight or drama that is going to break out between you and your date, more so if you walk into the place with a bit of attitude and disgust.  Ladies there are possibilities with the Taco Bell date!  Let’s put another spin on this place for a date.  In the fancy restaurant you have to sit and wait for your food, talk, think of interesting conversation… but what if you want to run even before the salad hits the fancy table?  Or what if your phone doesn’t ring and that your backup caller forgets to tell you that your cat had once again died (the poor thing has surpassed its number of lives using this excuse).

But now what?  You’ve survived the Taco Bell date… your guy has spent $5.  Does the night end there?  Nah splurge and go for the movie!  This might sound lame but ever wonder why a woman’s purse is huge?  I mean there is a reason why they call a woman’s purse their luggage or that we could actually live out of our purse.  If we survive the 15 minutes at Taco Bell… who’s to say I won’t skip the popcorn and share my flask?

Whatever happened to freedom of speech?

Ever wonder what it would be like to not censor your self for an entire day?  To completely speak your mind and say whatever you feel to anyone all day!  Just the thought of this makes me smile.  We all know the world is stressful.  Wouldn’t not censoring yourself take a good chunk of that stress away?  Who wouldn’t want to tell the jerk that just called to yell at you over the phone what you really thought about what he said?  Or to tell the person who always complains on their facebook posts about this or that and you really want to post “stop whining! Buck up!”  Why do we refrain from doing this?  What really stops us from letting whatever is on our mind out?

The Bathroom Realization

ever go into someones bathroom and look around? You really get to know your friends better by just what they leave out. Theres the normal deodorant, brush, toothpaste... sofar decent friends they have some good hygiene skills... then you have theres the bathrooms with beer bottles and beer cans in the shower and you know if you really have to pee that there is no toilet paper or soap. But then there's the bathroom with the tv/dvd player.  at first you think that this bathroom rules! These people know how to relax! But as you are sitting on the potty the quick realization hit you and you quickly look under the sink for the disinfecting wipes....

Personalized License Plates

I was driving today and saw a license plate that was titled "TIMSBABE".  I've gone over my thoughts on the whole babe thing... but I saw this plate and took note of the car.  It wasn't a fancy car it was an older model of a Hyundai Sonata.  I thought about the plate and thought wow Tim, you need a better car if it's your babe!  Get something cooler, more manly right?  But then I stopped and thought once again, this isn't Tim's car, this is Tim's wife's car who he calls Babe!  Oh come on Tim, get your wife a newer car and something a bit more fancy!  And Boo to you Tim's Wife!  Does it really make you feel better having personalized plates that are claiming you are Tim's?  I really want to know what Tim's plates are!

There are times when we all make mistakes.  As friends and as family, we have a choice to make... how do we deal with these mistakes that come up in life?  It is easy to say we forgive each other, forgiveness is a gift that is sometimes overrated and abused.  Forgetting is another story, this one isn't as easy.  So how do we do it; look past and move on.  I think it all goes within the not to dwell upon the mistakes in life and picking yourself up and moving on.  But what does that part of moving on really consist of?  When you are hurt... how long does it take to heal?

questions & answers

Why is asking a question sometimes so difficult?  It’s human nature to want to know something… most of us want to expand our knowledge.  You and I both know that there is so much useless information out there in the world it’s a bit overwhelming.  But what about those things we can’t figure out?  What do we do… What do you do?  Sure it is easy to give up and try to google the answer.  Trust me google is my friend in many cases… but what happens when this question resurfaces?  When do we give up and admit defeat and tell ourselves we can’t figure it out? What is it that we fear about asking?

Without gravity...

What would we do if there was no gravity?  Would we let go of our surroundings and become distracted by the ability to reach the stars?  Or would we just keep holding on to what we can and never let go? I’m wondering if you were faced with a big change or even a big opportunity to change how many of us would be able to just react and go with the flow…

Babe...Baby...

How many of you have friends that give you a nickname?  I am sure we all do.  But what about those odd nicknames our friends give us?  This brings me to the term “baby”.  Is being called baby a negative thing?  We all know a couple that calls each other babe or baby.  But what happens when the pet name now crosses over to everyone they know.  Instead of Ashley, I’m now Babe too!  Do you say something or do you just raise an eyebrow and roll your eyes?  Is it an age thing?  Or is a habit… have they been saying baby after every sentence for so long it is permanently drilled into their vocabulary?

Expect the Unexpected....

We've all had crappy days... and oddly why are they usually tied with being on a Monday?  Why does Monday get this stereotype?

It takes only one thing to make your day better.... and why does it seem to take the entire day for that one good thing to happen?  It could be candy or cake in your fridge... the drink that you make yourself the second you get home... or turning off your phone and playing xbox!

Yes... I had one of those Mondays.  and Yes I was waiting for something good to happen, heck getting anxious to find out what would make me smile.  And then there it was... plain and simple... but nonetheless, onto Tuesday!

There is a first for everything... even today

We live in a world where privacy is a rare gift.  We have facebook, twitter and even myspace (yet do people use myspace anymore?)... we communicate thru these mediums.  We don't call and talk on the phone, we text, we post, we type!  It's more convenient that way.  One of my friends told me it's hard to stay private in a world with no privacy.  But don't we do that to ourselves?
